Description:

The Tyrell P34 created a sensation when it was announced on September 22, 1975 as the first 6-wheeled vehicle in F1 history. The peculiar tire arrangement of four front wheels and two rear wheels was designed with the three goals of reducing air resistance, improving braking performance, and improving maneuverability. However, it has an extremely orthodox configuration except for the four front wheels, such as the suspension attached to the triangular cross-section frame and the highly reliable Ford V8 engine. Employing proven, well-understood mechanisms enabled speedy and reliable development. Various improvements were made in the post-announcement tests, and the actual type made its debut at the Spanish GP on May 2, 1976, driven by Patrick Depailler. On June 13th of the same year, Jody Scheckter won the 7th round of the Swedish Grand Prix, and Depailler finished 2nd, proving that the front four-wheel idea was sufficiently effective. In addition, in the Constructors' Championship that year, he finished 3rd overall after Ferrari and McLaren. The Tyrell P34, which uses a four-wheel front system, is an innovative machine that will go down in F1 history.
